For decades, Hong Kong’s showbiz industry was considered to be one of the most profitable entertainment industries in the world, but mainland China’s entertainment sector picked up quickly, and by the 21st century, the Chinese entertainment market became the second largest in the world, after only the United States.
This is why many Hong Kong and Taiwanese artists have left their homelands to pursue much more profitable careers in mainland China.
