How to deal with car accident which is not my fault?

Most drivers have car accident experences one way or the other.  I wish auto insurance folks will answer your question, but looks like they are busy right now.   This is just a laymen's view:

Here is a few things you should do:
1. Call 911 report accident, they will dispatch police and other assitants as needed.  Medical attention might be provided on site and at hospital.  Don't delay of treatment because of money, it will be cover by insurance later.

2. Should not admit that's your fault, nor try to accuse the other parties, just make sure everyone is safe.  Let police report states who is responsible.

2. While waiting for police, write down tag# of the other car/s (to prevent hit and run).  Exchange insurance info, policy #, driver licenses #, name, address, phone#, etc

3. Give police your statement about what happened, as clear as calm as possible.  Wait for police give you the case#. Then you can leave.

4. Report accident to your insurance company for backup.

5. Go to police department 2 days later pick up your police report with pay, some of then can be purchase on line now.

6. The report should state if who is at fault, that' what your insurance company will need.  Make sure the police report were correct with what happened.  If not, you can request for additional statement place to the report, this will taking some extra steps.

7. If that's your fault, your insurance will cover you if you purchased the full coverage policy.  If that's the other party's fault, then the other insurance will take care you.

8. follow insurance company's instruction to get quotes for car repairs.  Remember, you do not have to make repairs at where the insurance company ask you to get a quote, you can always find somewhere you like to do the repairs. And pocket the difference if you can, but most of the cheaper repairs will use non original made parts.

9. If there are any injury invovled, look into the newspaper Ad, find a Dr. who know how to treat the injury and how to claim the medical bill.  You do not need to pay up front for medical cost.

10. Settle the claims: Car repairs can be settle earlier so that you can get money from insurance company to make repairs. Insurance company will  pay for the medical bill, days out of work, and time and transportation cost to see Dr./treatments.

Word of wisdow: Hit by a car will not get you rich, the injury and stress will far outweight of what you get paid.  Some driver have medical limits, you might not able to get all medical bill all paid by insurance company.  Good luck!
