connect gas pipe is very easy. Put a little putty before connect them. I did several times. When you replaced the old gas water heater, the gas pipe is there. Extra electric wires could be some work. I has not googles the electric wires for water heater but I believe it would be 240V so you need some work on you switch boxes. The high capacity wire is very expensive. Just my 2 cents.
