I work for a county human services department in CA, don’t know the local welfare system in GA, but every local governments have to provide health insurance to low income families, it’s mandatory. (Medi-Cal in CA, and Medicaid in some other state). Coverage various depending on different immigration status. But even undocumented people qualify for restricted benefits. Please have someone help them to go to the local County welfare office to apply.
Food stamp is a federal program. It is processed at the same local welfare office. If they have green cards (I assume the children are US born citizen), they will qualify. If mother does not have satisfactory legal status, they may apply for children only (mom opt out). A few hundred dollars worth of food will sure help the children at this difficult time, lot of more stable than individual donations. |
