Visual art, festival: Folk Fest 2010 will host more than 100 exhibitors at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Norcross. Aug. 20-22. $15 for the weekend; $7 each day. Ages 16 and under free.
Festival: City of Kennesaw’s Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival celebrates a few of our favorite things. 5-11 p.m. Aug. 20; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Aug. 21 at Adams Park and the Ben Robertson Community Center in Kennesaw.
Music: The Budweiser Superfest brings together some stellar R&B talent: Anthony Hamilton, Kem, Jaheim and Raheem Devaughn. At 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta.
Art, music: The High Museum of Art’s monthly Friday Jazz comes around again. 5 p.m. Aug. 20. The event is free with museum admission.
Music: The Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra, Northside Choral Jazz Ensemble and the Atlanta Percussion Trio are on hand for the summer’s final edition of Duluth’s Symphony on the Green at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20. the event is free and takes place at the Duluth Festival Center and Amphitheater.
Music: The Atlanta music director, producer and singer Robert Ray performs with his 10-piece swing orchestra and vocalists Marsha Dupree, Shea Johnson, Courtenay Collins and Shawn Megorden at 8 p.m. Aug. 20-21 at the Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn.
Music: An evening of mellow rock is in store as Jack Johnson takes the stage at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood, Atlanta.
Movies: Two movies filmed in the Atlanta area have a homecoming today. Both “Get Low” and “Lottery Ticket” are opening in Atlanta theaters.
Music: The Atlanta Botanical Garden hosts Texas roots rocker Delbert McClinton at 8 p.m. Aug. 20.
SATURDAY
Festival: The 2010 Summer Flavors Festival offers food from Atlanta restaurants and caterers, cooking demonstrations, a children’s area, a merchandise walk and a music stage of local and national acts. Aug. 21-22 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. Free; food tickets available for purchase.
Music, sports: 790 The Zone’s Rock & Jock Family Fest boasts a headlining set from rockers Cowboy Mouth. 5-10 p.m. Aug. 21 at Suwanee Town Center Park. And it’s free.
Movies, curator talk: “Dalí the Filmmaker” includes a talk and screening with guest curator Elliott King. At 8 p.m. Aug. 21 at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta.
Festival: The Taste of Chamblee will have music, arts and crafts and children’s activities, but the food is the star in one of the Atlanta area’s most culinarily diverse cities. 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Aug. 21. Free; food tickets $1. At 5468 Peachtree Road, Chamblee.
Festival: Have a cold one at the Highland Beer Fest. Noon-6 p.m. Aug. 21 in Inman Park, at Highland Avenue and Elizabeth Street N.E., Atlanta.
Festival: The Pickin’ ’N Junkin’ 7th Annual Bluegrass Festival will feature crafts from local artists, junk tables and collectibles, a classic car show and shine, crafts for the kids, blue plate dinner, cold beer and wine, bounce house and games. The free fest starts at 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta.
Visual arts: The troubled Gulf Coast is the subject as Buckhead’s Reinike Gallery pays “Tribute to the Wetlands.” Opening reception 6-9 p.m. Aug. 21. Through Sept. 11.
Festival: It’s the 10th annual BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival in Oakhurst’s Harmony Park, at East Lake Drive and Oakview Road in Decatur. The fest starts at 4 p.m. Aug. 21.
Stage: Traditional Chinese music, dance and art come to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre as Shen Yun Performing Arts takes the stage. 2 and 8 p.m. Aug. 21.
Comedy: Many know him as a sitcom and movie actor, but Patton Oswalt is really at his brilliant best doing stand-up comedy. 8 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Tabernacle, Atlanta.
Visual arts: The Mable House Arts Center in Mableton hosts the 23rd National Juried Art Exhibition. Opening reception 7-9 p.m. Aug. 21. Through Sept. 28.
SUNDAY
Music: It’s the “Last Rodeo” for country duo Brooks & Dunn. This is among the pair’s final shows. After one last Nashville date on Sept. 2, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are going their separate ways, restarting the solo careers they put on hold when they joined forces back in 1990. 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood, Atlanta.
Stage: The Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s production of “As You Like It” is part of their “August Threepeat,” playing in repertory with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Taming of the Shrew.” The Threepeat continues through Sept. 12 at the New American Shakespeare Tavern, Atlanta.
Music: Donna Summer, disco’s premier diva, returns to the Chastain Park Amphitheatre stage at 8 p.m. Aug. 22. |
