FYI:
Wang's attorneys (two public defenders): Scott Jones and Tejas Bhatt
Wang was brought into court by a burly state Department of Correction officer and judicial marshals. He was dressed in a green prison jumpsuit, had cuffs on his hands and feet and kept his head down as he shuffled into the courtroom.
Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Gene Calistro Jr. filed a motion for “non-testimonial evidence,” to obtain saliva from inside Wang’s mouth. Superior Court Judge Roland Fasano granted the motion, which was not contested by the two public defenders who have been appointed to represent Wang.
But Fasano noted the discovery process is still under way, in which police and prosecutors gather information, then share it with defense attorneys. Wang did not enter a plea Tuesday and his attorneys, Scott Jones and Tejas Bhatt, said they have not decided whether to ask for a probable cause hearing, in which prosecutors present their evidence.
Toor’s widow, Parneeta Sidhu, who was not hit when Wang allegedly fired at her, was not in the courtroom Tuesday. |
