ASO will perform "Madam Butterfly" tonight

Shu-Ying Li Soprano




Soprano Shu-Ying Li was born in Shandong, China and is the 2008 EMMY Winner for Madama Butterfly Live from Lincoln Center at the NYCO.  Performances include Cio- Cio-San in Madama Butterfly with New York City Opera and their tour to Japan, Cincinnati Opera Festival, Baltimore Opera, Portland Opera, Opera Columbus, Fresno Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Arizona Opera, Connecticut Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera Tampa, Florida Grand Opera and Honk Kong Festival. Other performances include the title role in the world premiere of Bun-Ching Lam’s Wenji in New York’s Lincoln Center Festival and the Hong Kong International Arts Festival; the Princess in Tan Dun’s Tea in Shanghai and Lyon, France; Marguerite in Faust in Santa Barbara; Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore with Connecticut Opera,  Musetta and Mimi in La bohème at the Budapest Opera and the Grand Theater in Shanghai, Mimi in La Boheme with NYCO and Fresno Opera,  Liu in Turandot in Mallorca, Spain and Opera Lyra Ottawa; title role in Ariadne auf Naxos in Tel Aviv and Opera North; Micaela in Carmen at the Shanghai Concert Hall and Elisabetta in Don Carlo in Hong Kong Opera. Additionally she has performed the title role Suor Angelica, The countess in Le Nozze di Figaro and Violetta in La Traviata.


It will be a hot performance for Atlanta community of classic music.  This young Chinese lady has a fabulous voice and good master of music. I listened a few pieces of her singing at youtube.com.  Very good.  Wish you all can see this performance on Thur, Sat and Sundays.

今晚去听了李淑英（音译）主演的普契尼歌剧《蝴蝶夫人》。听得俺热血沸腾。 李演唱得太出色了。 音色统一，共鸣充分，如行云流水，演艺一流啊。 亚城交响乐团四十人的乐队伴奏，Spano亲自指挥。这是亚城歌剧史上的一流演出啊。听完后，全场掌声不绝，喝彩连连。俺激动的差点冲上台去啊。、

建议亚城喜好声乐群们在周六周日二天赶紧抓住机会听一场李淑英的演唱。 亚城这地方，来这样好的歌剧演员，这样好的华人歌剧演员，实在不多得。

Again, I think that Atlanta has a rare opportunity of staging a first-class opera with Li Shu Ying as the Butterfly. Her performance is so fine that it is beyond words.  I was shcoked by her performance of Madm Butterfily.   My heart almost stopped after her lact act in the opera---Butterfly commited sucide with the knife in wich her grandfather's words were: the man who dies with honor can not live without honor.
