When I just came US in 1990, I stayed with American Host Family in CA. I had my own room and they provided me 3 meals per day and picked me up and dropped me off to the school. I paid $500 per month.
We also applied to be a Host Family before we have kids (that was 15 years ago). A Host Family's house required to be on the bus line. So the student was able to take bus go and back from school by herself/himself. We provided 3 meals per day and the student had his/her own private room. The fee was $650 per month (remember! it was back to 1993-1996), but after itemized the cost, we had to pay the tax.
Please keep this in mind, also remind your friend (you two need to have a same/correct concept of what a "Host Family"is, before you agree to do it) that student come to US to study, especially in that young age, the purpose is to train to be independent and learn English, not to come over here to be a spoiled kid or expect people treat her/him as princess/prince. And you are the "Host", it is your home that student comes over. So the student needs to be 入境隨俗,not you 苟全 the student. |
