老钱：继往开来/记美中下一代教育基金会的一次活动

我想这是因为基金会理事和他们的孩子都是热心人。我知道知足花了许多时间想请其他孩子参加，但不是那么容易。不是所有的孩子愿意在这种场合露面，更何况是义务的。

As a mentor, I've been lucky enough to get to know a Northview student, courteous, eloquent and ambitious, who has worked 20 to 30 hours a week after school at the parents' restaurant ever since the middle school, and who has always demanded not get paid for the work.

There is nothing wrong to go to HYPSM. There is nothing wrong to be a researcher, a plubmer, or even a fast food restaurant worker. As long as he or she is happy and can support himself without on public assistant. You live your own life!  However, there are a lot of kids who would be very happy to go to their dream school. In this case, a good grade, leadership, and extra curriculums are absolutely necessary.  This program is just for them and their family. May be one day, you can do one on how to be an Entrepreneur and enter college will not be as important.

如知足所说, 基金会在爬藤问题和对下一代教育的基调上是非常谨慎的。所以在宣传的主题上我们刻意地回避许多可以更吸引眼球的字眼。

今后的这类活动组织, 我们会认真总结经验和大家的建议。但是必须说明, 基金会宗旨是帮助中国的贫困孩子完成学业。这项工作已经消耗掉基金会理事们的大部分时间和精力。我们也希望能够开展一些像这次针对华人子女教育类的专题活动, 但是因为精力限制, 今后的活动安排, 我们只能根据具体情况, 因时、因势、因人具体情况具体讨论确定。

爬藤问题, 见仁见智。教育子女千差万别。我们曾经担心这次活动是否会产生一种过度强调和鼓励孩子爬藤过独木桥的影响，现在看来这个担心是多余的。感谢绿色萍综和老钱(40楼)等从另外一个角度阐述关于爬藤的见解。

They could get in the schools, one of many factors ( this is a big in), because of money being stacked in big time.

虽然与主题不相符，但是还是想提一提。现在的SAT补习班，就像国内的高考补习班一样，遍地都是。这种恶补SAT的做法，如果被大学录取人员注意到，必定会在亚裔学生的SAT、ACT的分数上大打折扣，受害的将是未来的亚裔学生。哥哥、姐姐们在恶堵弟弟、妹妹的路。
当然，大家都在补，为了在同一起跑线上，自己为何不补，眼前利益现实。
记得10年前的补习班寥寥无几，没有参加恶补班的亚裔学生还是考的不错，不少步入社会的毕业生颇有成就。
