Stellar(XLM ) is an entirely decentralized consensus network with a built-in decentralized exchange that supports all kinds of cryptocurrencies and assets.

It seems nothing special about stellar from the profile, but why did IBM choose it rather than other Gateaway-Coin? It must have its advantage. It is obvious that Ripple prevails in the battle of Stellar vs Ripple about the agreement. A financial agreement is worthless without banks, users and international ports. However, Ripple is far-sighted, because it has joined NACHA and recruited Chris Larsen and Prosper from E-loan. Whats more, Ripple obtained the usage agreement of the German bank, Fidor. Adapting to the current financial system, Ripple succeeded, but why did IBM choose stellar?

Stellar Network is developed based on Ripple, which was improved according to the technology of Bitcoin and Ripple, especially the consensus mechanisms and verification algorithms. The node performance to operate the Stellar network is improved, and the requirement of node resource are low. Among the improvements, the biggest change is the support algorithm of the stellar payment system, SCP, which claimed to be the safest Byzantine algorithm.

Stellar blockchain  was chosen is not an accident. LeTV cooperated with stellar is the beginning of cross-border payment. Except for Stallar, it is said Ripple was also chosen by bank as a Gateaway Coin, which reveals that Gateaway Coins are more popular from the perspective of bank.
