Among those who are entitled to be the “America” in the “America First” are 2 major interest groups: “Capital America” & “Labor America”. Since “America First” is a political concept, and all politics are body politics, we then need to understand who are the bodies representing “Capital America” & “Labor America” respectively.
It may sound obvious but the real world is a bit more complicated than that. Otherwise, people would have voted wisely during each of the past 20+ election cycles over the last century, and “America” would have already been “Great” without help from either Reagan or Trump. The fact that many voters have been reliably voting against their own self interest speaks volumes. You bet many will continue doing so this time around, again!
This phenomenon has nothing to do with one’s education level, be it high school grad or a PhD. For our educational system never even attempts to make people politically wise. The only thing they crank out are finer and finer technocrats.
The bodies behind the 【Capital America】
The most visible place of all “Capital America” is in the US stock market. “Capital America” makes money from interest and dividend. The bodies behind the “Capital America” include:
#1: The classic “Capitalist” making money exclusively through capitals.
#2: CEOs / CXOs managing businesses for the “Capitalists”.
#3: Politicians / bureaucrats working for the “Capitalists” in Federal, State & local governments.
#4: Bankers / Onshore & Offshore Asset managers managing money for the “Capitalist”.
Even though a lot of people do have money in the bank to earn interest, as well as invest their savings in the stock market, as long as their main sources of income are their own labor, white or blue, they don’t belong here.
The bodies behind the 【Labor America】
“Labor America” makes money with its own labor, including both white & blue collars. A lot of middle class Americans are confused by their split interests between “Capital America” & “Labor America”. The rule of thumb is actually quite simple, as long as your main source of income is your own labor, you are the “Labor” in “Labor America”. The bodies behind the “Labor America” include:
A: Most W2 wage earners, blue or white, plus low/mid level managers.
B: Most 1099 contractors.
C: Self employed & small business owners.
D: Retirees who were A~C.
E: Undocumented labors, with concentrations in farms & meat plants.
Some may argue “E” doesn’t belong here since they are not citizens and can not vote. On the other hand, from the point of view of “Capital America”, “E” is essentially the same as “A~D”. For the sake of argument, let’s call “E” the “Underground Labor America”.
Once we put ourselves in the right shoes, we’ll have a lot more clarity regarding these hotly debated issues below and know where to cast our votes:
a: ObamaCare & Medicaid Expansion in Georgia.
b: Minimum wage, Job creations & US manufacturing revival.
c: US / China Trade War & Tariffs.
d: Legal / illegal immigrants & border wall.
