I actually think this boss is right. I worked in a Chinese restaurant in 1997. We saw so many customers. Some of them were so generous, some of them never left high tip or sometimes left no tip no matter how you serve them. We knew and remembered them all and call them iron rooster. So everytime when we saw these bad people came in, we intertionally gave them hard time and never gave them drink refill because it was not necessary to make them happy. Most of the time, the boss had to do (refill) it because he knew they are bad too (how you think the boss will be happy to do the waitress job?). If you ever worked in the restaurant before, you should know the tip is the most important part of your income. The restaurant only pays you $2 per hour, so why you waste time with someone who does not pay you?
Most of the Chinese are bad tippers because they have no habit to do it or feel uncomfortable to do it. Nowaday, I even tip when I visit China. Do you know why the service in the restaurant in China are so bad either? Because you don't pay the servers. Make sense? I hope when the Chinese are getting richer, please tip your server well please if you want to come back again. |
